Did you know that the Second Amendment, which enshrines our right to own firearms, was narrowly upheld in a 5-4 decision by the Supreme Court of the United States in District of Columbia v. Heller in 2008?
While 2A groups are making some headway in certain States with regards to our right to bear arms, it is only a matter of time before the courts strike down these laws…or some appointee or panel of unelected career bureaucrats issues regulations overturning them…or both.
What is just as troubling is Congress’ refusal to function as a check on the Executive and Judicial branches, and their willingness to continue to fund Obamacare and open borders. In all likelihood, it won’t be long before they cave on our gun rights and pass national background checks and mandatory registration, or ratify an international arms treaty (both of which will invariably will lead to confiscation).
It should be abundantly clear by now that most “good people” we send to Washington quickly forget the interests of the States, largely because it is far more profitable to support the growth of the federal government. In other words, the problem is not who we are sending; it is that power is increasingly centralized, making it an easy target for those who want to buy influence and impose their will on others.
Fortunately, our state legislators have one major check on federal power remaining: Article V of the U.S. Constitution. Once the States use this power to term limit federal officials, special interest group campaign dollars and the pressure from “leadership” won’t hold as much sway. Additionally, imposing fiscal restraints on Washington will force them to cut spending and relinquish power back to the States, freeing up the private sector.
This would allow us to once again manage our own health care, energy, education, and police – and restore our gun rights.
Of course Progressives are aware of Article V as well, and have threatened to use it to dismantle our 2A rights. Last year they proposed to use Article V in the Senate to limit free speech, but fell flat on their faces. They have even started some of their own Soros-funded Article V groups – but none of them enjoy popular support.
This begs the question: is this all misdirection? After all, if you are a fan of big government, why waste your time on an Article V campaign, when you already control the apparatus of the federal government and can impose ‘net neutrality’ and ammunition bans?
The fact is, the States have home-field advantage with an amendments convention – because 38 states must ratify each and every amendment proposed if it is to become law. This means Progressive agenda items don’t stand a chance, and they know it. (Don’t you wish we had that kind of check on Congress and the President?)
Please contact your state legislators and kindly encourage them to help restore the balance of shared power between the federal government and the States, and protect your right to bear arms…before the next wave of regulations take away more of our rights, or another anti-2A Supreme Court Justice is appointed.
